Vocal Work

High School

My freshman year in high school, I joined my school's radio station.  This station, KMIH 88.9FM Hot Jamz Radio, was  a dying station.  I had always been told I had a perfect radio voice so I chose to try it out.  My teacher recognized that I had a natural talent for radio/voice work, so he immediately trained and put me on the air.  Having spent a whole year working on this station I didn't want to see the last of the budget get cut and the station to die.  I took over the general manager position and began to rebuild.  I quickly convinced people in the school to join and experience this industry and what it has to offer.  Eventually I even rebranded the station from Hot Jamz to 88.9 The Bridge, reaching out to a new demographic.  This rebrand gave the station a second chance, increasing the number of listeners ten-fold.  The Bridge is now one fo the most followed stations on TuneIn in the Seattle Area.  The class is now so popular that it has been divided into two separate classes, as there are too many student for one class.

I have been gifted with the ability to run and produce a radio station in my time.  Some of the work that I have done won me Best On-Air Personality from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System, an organization that monitors all high school and college level radio programs around the US and recognizes the most distinguished students.

Throughout the year, the teachers of Mercer Island nominate and vote for a winner of the award Rotary Islander of the Month.  This is awarded to students who show outstanding commitment to community and selflessness.  This honor is only awarded to 9 students every year, and I was fortunate enough to be part of that.  The staff of the district recognized my work with the station and all that I have done and chose myself as a recipient.
