1991 Toyota Pickup

History

Don't get it wrong with the Toyota Tacoma or Toyota Tundra, this is the Toyota Pickup.  I understand how confusing this may be.  It was first built in 1991 where my grandparents bought it for my uncle, then later my parents bought it from them as a learning car, especially as it is a manual transmission.  I have spent countless hours working on this truck.  Anywhere from installing a turbo, to a full stage 2 clutch overhaul.  Having only one-hundred thousand miles really makes this truck special!

My Ownership

Throughout the time that I owned this vehicle, I added copious modifications to the vehicle, ranging from quality-of-life changes to performance modifications.  The first being I installed a cold-air intake to increase high-end power.  The next was Cooilovers for the suspension.  Those were the extent of the quality-of-life mods I made.  The mods for performance were much more complicated.  I first installed a Garret T3 turbo.  This turbo ran at about 4 PSI until I changed out the flywheel to a heavyweight and the crankshaft to a high torque shaft.  Once I had done these I noticed that the clutch would slip under moderate to heavy load, thus requiring a new one.  This is in part that the clutch was twenty years old and still from the factory, but mostly because it couldn't handle power.  I installed an LCE High-Performance stage 2 clutch.  After doing both those jobs I installed a Haltech Elite 550 ECU to give me more control over every aspect of the vehicle.  Those are the majority of the mods that have been done; other than little helpful mods.

Looking Forward

This vehicle is something I am hoping to one day buy from my parents, as I have sunk numerous days and blood, sweat, and tears into this truck.  I want my kids to have to drive this car as their first, mostly so they are highly adept at driving a manual, and so they can truly appreciate that you have to work for what you want, it won't be given to you.
